Jerk, You Don't Care About Me

One of the greatest qualities a leader can possess is they have to care about people. Leaders who don't care about their people are jerks! I have grown in this area and want to continue to get better at caring for the people who work for me and with me. I'm not just talking about the token question of “How's your day,” or “How are you doing?” Their usual response to the token question is "Great." That's not good enough. Caring means taking time to get into the other person's world. It means taking time to ask them about their spouse and kids and really listening and caring. It means taking time to find out if the employee (volunteer) is happy and fulfilled with their role in the organization. People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care!
